This guide was written to help first-time instructors exploit various features of the text and anticipate common difficulties students will have with the presentation. To this end the following sections provide quick synopses of each chapter together with pedagogic hints from practical experience in class. Each synopsis is followed by a discussion of answers to or solutions for the exercises found at the end of that chapter in the text. Virtually all of the Passages for Analysis exercises have been usedsome many timesas quizzes in my own course. That experience has shaped both the instructions given in the text and the discussion presented here.
