Joshua D. Pilzer is an ethnomusicologist focusing on the place of music in the fabric of Korean modern life.  He earned his PhD from the University of Chicago in 2006, and has since worked at the University of California, Santa Barbara, Columbia University, and the University of Toronto, where since 2009 he has been Assistant Professor in the Faculty of Music.
