Released on 08 Apr 2011 Howard Skempton’s Only the Sound Remains shortlisted for the RPS Music Award for a Large Scale Composition.The annual RPS Music Awards, presented in association with BBC Radio 3, are the highest recognition for live classical music in the UK. Awards, in thirteen categories, are decided by independent panels consisting of some of the music industry’s most distinguished practitioners. The awards honour musicians, composers, writers, broadcasters, and inspirational arts organisations. The list of previous winners reads like a Who’s Who of classical music. This year’s RPS Music Awards celebrate outstanding achievement in 2010.

Howard Skempton’s Only the Sound Remains, for Viola and Ensemble, was premiered on 27th February 2010 by Birmingham Contemporary Music Group, conducted by James Weeks. The work was the main event in a portrait concert honouring the composer, and was acclaimed by the audience and critics alike.

Royal Philharmonic Society Music Award winners will be announced at the awards dinner on Tuesday 10 May, to be held at the Dorchester Hotel, London.
