OUP composers at the 2010 BBC Proms
Gabriel Jackson and Howard Skempton works take centre stage.
OUP is delighted to announce the world premiere of house-composer Gabriel Jackson’s 'In Nomine Domini' at this year's BBC Proms.
|
Jackson has built a reputation over the last 20 years for being one of Britain’s leading choral composers with his music being performed and broadcast all over the world. This latest work, 'In Nomine Domini', commissioned by the BBC Singers, is a 10-minute contemplative setting of a poem by John Bradburne scored for choir, harp, percussion and string quartet.

'In Nomine Domini' will be performed on 4th September as part of the
Proms Saturday Matinee 5.
Also at this year's BBC Proms, Howard Skempton's 'Lento' for orchestra.
'Lento' is music of extraordinary directness and simplicity. It is an enigmatic and hypnotic work within which shifting modal chords progress through the orchestra to create a chorale-like, almost architectural form beneath a calm melodic surface.
"Lento, by the British miniaturist Howard Skempton, must surely be heading for cult status… it is captivating in its simple wistfulness." BBC Music Magazine Pick of 1992
'Lento was commissioned by the BBC Symphony Orchestra and premiered on 12 March 1991 at the Barbican concert hall, conducted by Mark Wigglesworth. A CD is available on NMC label (NMCD005); it is NMC's most consistently-selling recording since its release in 1992.
'Lento' will be performed by the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Ilan Volkov, as part of Prom 47.
