Human Rights Watch
Human Rights Watch provides useful summaries of global issues and current events. It is therefore worthwhile visiting this site regularly to maintain an awareness of human rights events in the world.
ICRC
The website for the International Committee of the Red Cross contains much interesting information about the main areas of concern to the ICRC, including the humane treatment of prisoners. It contains the texts of the Geneva Conventions and details about all aspects of the work of the ICRC.
Human Rights Internet
This website is aimed at the empowerment of human rights activists and is therefore interesting with regard to the role that pressure groups have to play within the realisation of human rights. The site provides information on thematic programmes regarding issues such as women's rights and the rights of children.
Liberty

'Liberty' aim at protecting civil liberties and preventing abuses of state power. This website is therefore very interesting in relation to the struggle between the state and individual rights. There are interesting sections on the Human Rights Act, asylum and immigration issues and extradition.
Human Rights First
Human Rights First is a United States based organisation of activists. The emphasis is on refugee and asylum problems and there is a lot of information on human rights issues which are specific to the United States.
FCO
The Foreign and Commonwealth Office website is of interest as it explains the government's official line on human rights. It also provides the annual report on human rights and other government reports on specific problems such as torture.
Association for the Prevention of Torture
This website is very useful for gaining further insight into the problem of torture. The site gives information on the Association's programmes across Africa, America and Europe and also includes an interesting section labelled 'torture in the media' which consists of media articles.
World Organisation Against Torture Member
This website contains up to date news and a 'hot topics' section. There is also information relating to 'project disappeared' which is dedicated to the subject of forced disappearances. This will be of particular interest to those who wish to gain a further insight into the problem of state terrorism.
Anti-Slavery
This is an interesting website which provides information on modern forms of slavery and the campaigns which are in progress to attempt to combat the problem of slavery. The site contains up to date news and by searching the archives it is possible to view past news articles.
Article 19
This website is named after article 19 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and is therefore dedicated to freedom of expression. This is a useful reference site which provides information on leading freedom of expression cases.
