Chapter 6

Aberystwyth roads

Download a zip file containing all files for this case study.

The file netw.gdb can be opened directly in ArcMap. When the file opens two components will be visible: streets_Net_junctions (junctions between streets) and aber_streets (the streets themselves). The shortest path can be found using the ArcGIS™ Utility Network Analyst. As described in the ArcGIS Help facility, the start and end junctions are flagged and the shortest path between the two flags is computed and indicated. Note that the street features used are part of what is termed a geometric network, created in ArcGIS™ from the shapefile aber_streets_3D.shp.
