What the student of genomics will need to find on the web are sites that provide:
Several major web sites collect complete archives of sequence data in the public domain. They curate and annotate the data, and make it available. They are equipped both with information-retrieval and analytic tools. The goal is to provide sites for 'one-stop shopping' for all one's genomics needs.
These sites are data oriented. Other, more specialized, sites aim at specific scientific communities, such as scientists studying Drosophila or mouse. These sites provide information of interest to scientists in those fields, such as lists of upcoming meetings.
