Charts the conception and development of Google showing how they fostered a culture that allowed money making ideas to emerge. However, unanticipated effects of the Google phenomenon came into play. Was a different approach to strategy development now required?

Gladwell, M (2005) Blink, Allen Lane.
Gladwell explores how the sub-conscious mind makes decisions. This is not a strategy book but it does further our understanding of the decision-making process.

Whittington, R (2001) What is Strategy – and does it matter?, Second Edition, Thomson (Chapter 2).
This short, academic book has a useful framework for showing different approaches to strategy development.

Mintzberg, H et al (1998) Strategy Safari, Prentice-Hall (Chapter 1).
Ten approaches to strategy development are identified in this book. It is an entertaining journey showing how the different approaches can all offer something to our understanding of strategy.

Stacey, R (2007) Strategic Management and Organizational Dynamics, Fifth Edition, Prentice-Hall (Chapters 1 and 2).
This book shows how the fields of chaos and complexity can be used to understand strategy development.
