It is clearly laid out and designed to introduce students to some of the key debates in the area. It is well written and full of useful information, so would be a good starting point if you want to research in this area.

Greenpeace defines itself as a global organization that campaigns to protect the world from environmental dangers. Here you can find out more about particular issues and collect information from the latest press releases, as well as observe how pressure groups can operate through the global media.

Based at the London School of Economics, this is a group of academic researchers who are interested in a wide range of problems facing the environment from a global perspective. From this website you can read online articles about global issues, find out about public lectures and seminars, and order copies of the Centre’s publications.



World Trade Organization (pro-globalization)

This international organization is based in Geneva, Switzerland, and has 144 member countries. It works to negotiate trade agreements to allow the import and export of products between different nations, handle trade disputes and provide ‘assistance’ to developing countries. Navigate your way around the various parts of the site to find out how such global politics are managed.



Third World Network (anti-globalization)

This is a non-governmental, international organization based in Malaysia, which conducts research and promotes awareness of the problems facing developing countries. It is full of extremely interesting articles about issues as diverse as biotechnologies, women’s rights, global trade and economics, health, tourism and UN peacekeeping strategies. Well worth a visit!



Make Poverty History

This is a global campaign aimed at cancelling the debts caused by economic aid in developing countries. It also aims to ‘make trade fair’ by paying workers in developing countries a fairer wage for the goods that they produce for Western countries. This website provides information about the UK’s role in this campaign, the policy context, and the events and activities that have been organized to raise awareness.
