Fathers For Life

This site aims to challenge some of the dominant ways of thinking about ‘absent fathers’ in society. It is written by a group of fathers in defence of their position and role within the family. It is full of articles and resources about such issues as fatherlessness, child support, fathers’ civil rights, and domestic violence.



Centre for Social Gerontology

This is a research group based at Keele University, which explores various issues in the sociology of age and ageing. It contains details of current research and forthcoming seminars, and there are some interesting articles to read online. If you are studying this area of sociology, the Centre would be a good point of contact, and it is no doubt worth a visit!

Part of Kearl’s ‘sociological tour through cyberspace’ this is an extremely useful and comprehensive site, full of informed discussions about every dimension of family sociology. Follow the links from the index page to find out more about coupling and courtship, parenting, singlehood and alternative family forms, alongside accounts of domestic violence, divorce and adoption. It also refers to research outside Britain, and so would be helpful if you are interested in cross-cultural comparisons.

Women’s Aid

This is an organization providing help, advice and support for women who have experienced domestic violence. It contains details of recent policy and practice, legal changes and recent campaigns, as well as news of upcoming events and practical advice on how to help someone who is experiencing domestic violence.
