Garner, Ferdinand & Lawson: Introduction to Politics
Scenario 3
You are an elected member of a legislature in a liberal democracy. Your party is in office, and you have always voted with enthusiasm in favour of its policies. However, you are strongly opposed to genetically-modified crops. You have never spoken out on the subject before, because it has not previously been a 'hot' political issue. However, the issue has now attracted strong media attention. Which factors might influence the way you decide to vote, in order of importance?
Helpful hint: In this brief description, some vital pieces of information have deliberately been omitted. What are they? Which one did you think of first? It would be useful to read Chapter 9 before making your final decisions.
