HMIC has a statutory responsibility to promote the efficiency and effectiveness of police forces in England and Wales via a programme of regular force inspections and reports. It has become increasingly influential in recent years in promoting the Home Office agenda on performance improvement, as well as producing influential thematic reports on such matters as race relations and equal opportunities. This website includes a range of useful information and statistics on policing in England and Wales, and also provides online access to HMIC reports.

The Home Office is the central government department with responsibility for policing in England and Wales, and this website allows access to a wide range of relevant material for students interested in research and current policy developments on policing. In particular, students can access online a large body of Home Office research studies on policing, dating back to 1995.

A key website for students interested in the major programme of police reform introduced by the current Labour Government. It includes key official publications such as consultation documents and summaries of recent legislation, and also the influential National Intelligence Model (NIM) for policing, and the most recent National Policing Plan.

A police service website with important details and contact addresses for all the police forces (and related organizations) in the United Kingdom. This includes a range of relevant service-related information about current issues of concern, as well as details of police recruitment processes.

The Independent Police Complaints Commission:

Police Superintendents Association of England and Wales:

The Association is the sole representative body of superintending ranks who are members of police forces in England and Wales maintained under section 1 of the Police Act 1996.
