This edited collection covers a very wide range of topics relating to youth justice, including its relationship to social divisions, and wider policy contexts as well as practice issues.

Muncie, J. (2004) Youth and Crime: a Critical Introduction (2nd edn). London: Sage.
This book is probably the most useful of the overview texts in the field of youth crime and youth justice. It provides a good historical account of youth crime and locates discussion in a wider context of theorizing about youth and youth culture(s).

Muncie, J. and Goldson B. (eds) (2006) Comparative Youth Justice: Critical Issues. London: Sage.
This collection comprises analyses and commentary on youth justice in 12 countries and a useful concluding chapter discussing broad trends and variations between and within countries.

Smith, R. (2007) Youth Justice: Ideas, Policy, Practice (2nd edn). Cullompton: Willan Publishing.
The main strength of this book is its very detailed analysis of the workings of youth justice, making it complementary to Muncie’s book in many respects.
