General web links

The Scientist
The Scientist is an online journal which requires an e mail address to register and is a source of articles and blogs on a wide range of topics. The summaries are fairly short and an undergraduate student should be able to understand most of them. Access to the full articles requires a subscription, either institutional or personal.

The National Center for Biotechnology Information
The National Center for Biotechnology Information (NCBI) defines its role as follows: 'Established in 1988 as a national resource for molecular biology information, NCBI creates public databases, conducts research in computational biology, develops software tools for analyzing genome data, and disseminates biomedical information - all for the better understanding of molecular processes affecting human health and disease.'

Cell and Molecular Biology Online
Cell and Molecular Biology Online provides access to a wide range of sites including some of those listed below.

Access Excellence
Access Excellence is part of the National Health Museum in the US, and aims to enhance science education, particularly in relation to human health.

There is also a biology textbook by M. J. Farabee.
www.estrellamountain.edu/faculty/farabee/biobk/biobooktoc.html

The site also provides a link to a range of information on biotechnology, mostly involving discussions on matters on ethics/public policy.

Primer on Molecular Genetics
The US Department of Energy maintains a Primer on Molecular Genetics, which is largely about the Human Genome Project.

There is also a primer on microbial genomics:

And an interesting primer on genomics beyond the human genome project: http://www.ornl.gov/sci/techresources/Human_Genome/publicat/primer2001/index.shtml

Medical Biochemistry
A nice general review of biochemistry from a medical perspective is available here:
