Part 3. Other Information on the Gene
Having explored the Sequence Summary and the Gene Summary pages, we will only quickly describe the other pages in the yellow bar at the top of the page. These can be accessed from either the Gene Summary or the Sequence Summary pages.
These pages are used primarily for obtaining very specific information about a gene and not so often used in browsing. You should check through them quickly to get some idea of the scope of information available for a well-studied gene such as daf-7.
- Protein Summary includes information about the predicted protein, including its size, isoelectric point, and amino acid composition. It also includes information on related proteins in other species.
- EST Alignments lists the known expressed sequence tags and cDNAs for the gene, which were used to determine its structure. This is particularly helpful if an investigator gets results that do not precisely agree with the Wormbase results, such as a different splice variant.
- Nearby Genes lists the genes that are close by on the genetic map, in order of known or estimated map distances from the gene. This is especially helpful for genetic mapping experiments and positional cloning.
- Genome Browser provides detailed information on this region of the genome.
- Tree Display, XML, Schema, and Acedb Image are more detailed or older versions of the database files and are principally used for bioinformatics research.
