Haberberg and Rieple: Strategic Management

Chapter 09

Cisco Systems lists the firms with which it has strategic alliances on its website, http://www.cisco.com/web/partners/pr67/part_strat_alliance_category.html, with links to information about these alliances. Follow these links and also visit the websites of the partners, and especially their annual reports and press releases, to find information about the alliance.

At the time of writing Cisco’s partners are:
www.accenture.com
www.bearingpoint.com
www.capgemini.com
www.eds.com
www.emc.com
www.ericsson.com
www.ibm.com
www.intel.com
www.italtel.com
www.microsoft.com
www.motorola.com
www.sitronics.com
www.thrupoint.com
www.wipro.com

Make a table listing the ways in which these alliances are structured and managed / controlled (e.g. cross-shareholding, joint venture, contractual agreement), whether the alliance can be considered to be an example of coopetition, and what the alliance is intended to achieve. Use this table to evaluate whether the partnership is a good one for both Cisco and its partner, and what factors have led to it being a success - or not!
