The continued support for the Common Agricultural Policy (CAP) by the European Union (EU) is one of the most controversial and debated points both within the EU and around the world. More specifically, EU sugar exports have often singled out as being particularly harmful the future economic prospects of developing countries. What have been the economic implications of continual sugar subsidies for developing nations and specifically a country like Mozambique? Secondly, how does the World Trade Organisation view the EU’s sugar policy? Finally, do you feel that the recent proposed reform of the CAP will be effective, or is it merely too little too late?
