An interesting paper which suggests that disarticulating the occlusion (for example with a functional appliance) allows normal favourable mandibular growth to be harnessed to help in the treatment of Class II malocclusions. In the absence of this freeing of the occlusion, the effects of favourable mandibular growth are masked by dento-alveolar compensation.
