Explaining 'My Account' Back to top

We will ask you to sign in or register in order to do certain things on our website, such as making a purchase, or ordering an inspection copy.

Once you have registered, My Account allows you to:

  • store your billing address and delivery addresses;
  • edit your email address, password, security question, and marketing preferences;
  • create and maintain wish list and share them with others;
  • review the orders you have placed with us.

What will OUP do with the information in My Account? Back to top

Most of the information you give us will be used to process and deliver your orders.

We may also use your details to send you information by post or email about OUP products and services which we feel may be of interest to you. If you would prefer not to receive such information, you can opt out at any time by ticking the boxes on the My Information screen, or when you place an order. We will also give you an opportunity to opt out of receiving further information every time we mail you.

We will not sell or rent your personal information to any third party.

We take great care over our handling of your payment information, and our systems are fully compliant with current security standards. Payment details are not stored in My Account, and are only held temporarily in our off-line ordering processing system in a safe, encrypted form.

I've forgotten my password. What do I do? Back to top

Go to the Sign In/Register page using the link towards the top of any page. Click on the "Have you forgotten your password?" link. Now enter your email address and click "Continue". You will be asked the Password Recovery Question you set up when you registered. Enter the answer and click "Continue". You will now be sent an email message containing your new password. Once you have logged in with the new password, you will be able to visit My Account and set your password to something more memorable.

How can I change my account details? Back to top

Go to the Sign In/Register page using the link towards the top of the page. Enter your email address and password to sign in. On the My Account page, select My Information. Make any changes you require, fill in your password, and click "Save Changes". Note that you always need to resupply a password when editing these details.

What is a Wish List? Back to top

A Wish List allows you to store details of products that you want to own. You can use it to collect items on a list for you to refer to in the future or you can send it to friends, family, or colleagues so that they can purchase items from the list for you.

How do I create a Wish List? Back to top

In order to create a Wish List, you will need to register with us and sign in. You can access your Wish List by clicking on the My Wish List link in the top toolbar of the site. Once you have signed in, you can view your Wish List(s).

When you are browsing around our site, and viewing our product pages, there will be an option to Add to Wish List against each product. Click on this to add the item and view the Wish List.

How do friends and family know I have a Wish List? Back to top

Once you have started to create a Wish List, you will have an option to send this list to your friends and family. You will need to enter their names and email addresses and can enter an optional message. This process will email a link to the list to all the addresses you specify and then those people will be able to follow the links to buy the items for you.

If someone does buy an item for you from your Wish List, it will be removed from the Wish List.

Can I get friends and family to set up a Wish List? Back to top

Yes. They will just need to create an account on our website and then they will be able to create their own Wish Lists. They can then send you the Wish List and you can buy items from it for them.

Can I create more than one Wish List on my account? Back to top

You can create as many Wish Lists as you want. You may want to set up specific Wish Lists, for example for your birthday, or another event. When you view your Wish Lists, you will see all of your lists on the page. You are able to control the viewing access on each list independently, and you can view, send, and delete any of the lists at any time. You can also rename the lists.

Can I change my Wish List? Back to top

Yes. You just need to view the Wish List and you will be able to either delete or rename your list(s). You can also remove items from a list and add new items to it.

How do I purchase from someone else's Wish List? Back to top

You can find someone else’s Wish List in two ways. Either:

From an email that they have sent to you, sharing their Wish List with you – in which case you can just follow the link to their Wish List.

Or

From within your own Wish List area, you can click on the View a Friend’s Wish List button. You will be prompted to enter their email address, and if they have created a list and made it public, their Wish List will be displayed.

Once your friend's Wish List has been displayed, simply click on Add to Basket next to the item(s) that you wish to buy and you will be taken to the Shopping Basket in the normal way. Once you have checked out, the item(s) will be removed from their Wish List.

Where are Wish List purchases sent? Back to top

When you purchase from a Wish List, as with any normal order, you can choose where you want the item to be sent. When you go through Checkout, your address book will be displayed, so you can either choose one of your stored addresses, or enter a new one.
