Oxford University Press: Summer Internships for Students 2012
Oxford University Press is once again offering a Summer Internship scheme in summer 2012. The internships, which will last 8 weeks, will provide opportunities for students interested in a career in publishing to experience work and life at OUP and gain valuable insights into the publishing business.
Internships are available in the following areas:
- Editorial
- Design and Production, both print and electronic
- Sales and Marketing
- Digital Publishing
Who are the Internships for?
The internship scheme is for anyone who is looking for a career in publishing. You are eligible if you are in your final year, if you have graduated within the last 12 months, or if you are looking at a change of direction and future career in publishing. While your degree may be in any discipline, successful candidates will have a good academic record and be able to demonstrate strong interpersonal and organisational skills, as well as a genuine commitment to a career in publishing.
Where and when?
The Internships are Oxford-based and will start on 2nd July 2012 and finish on 24th August 2012. You will need to be available for the full 8 weeks of the internship.
What will you do?
As an intern you will be given a live project to work on, with clear objectives and outcomes to deliver that will add real value to OUP. You will be working alongside experienced staff who will provide you with the guidance and on-the-job training you need. There will also be opportunities throughout your stay for more formal training to build your business skills.
Is the OUP Summer Internship Scheme paid?
Payment will be made to assist with interns expenses throughout the Internship scheme.
Applicants should expect to undertake a range of duties during their internship, such as: market research, conducting in depth studies into specific areas of publishing, writing reports, using databases, and setting up web pages.
By the end of your internship you will have gained a range of valuable skills and work experience, as well as a good insight into what working in publishing is like. If you have enjoyed your time in OUP and have demonstrated the potential and qualities needed to build a successful career you may be considered for permanent employment if suitable opportunities arise for you.
