How long will the eBook take to download?

On the majority of devices we would expect it to take approximately 2-3 minutes to complete the download, but bear in mind that the speed of any download may vary according to the size of the eBook you’re downloading, the device you are using to download, and the speed of your internet connection. Customers downloading using just a 3G connection may prefer to sideload onto the device from a PC. Please refer to your device documentation for further information.

Once purchased, how long do I have to download the Blackstone’s Criminal Practice 2012 eBook?

The download is not time-limited, and does not have an expiry date. However, it must be downloaded before October 2012 as, once the new edition is published, the previous edition will be removed from the site and it will no longer be supported or available for further download. In addition, when each eSupplement is ready, a new file will be produced containing the main text and the current eSupplement. You will be notified by email when this is available for download.

Is the Blackstone’s Criminal Practice 2012 eBook updated?

Yes. After initial publication (which includes eSupplement 1), two further eSupplements are released during the year. How will I be notified when the eSupplements are available?

You will be notified by email. When each eSupplement is ready for download an email will automatically be sent to the email address you specified when you first registered your account, and instructions will be provided. Please note that the eSupplement download file contains the main work as well as the current eSupplement.

What happens to my Bookmarks when a new Supplement is published?
Bookmarks and annotations are not automatically carried across from the old eBook file. If it is important for you to keep your existing bookmarks and annotations you will need to either manually transfer them across from the old eBook to the new one, or keep the old eBook alongside the new one. The new eBook is distinguished by a cover which reads 'Main Volume and Supplement 2'.

How do I purchase the Blackstone’s Criminal Practice 2012 eBook?

The eBook is available as part of the main Blackstone’s Criminal Practice 2012 Book and eBook pack, and can be purchased from the Oxford University Press web catalogue here. The eBook is also available on its own from Google and Amazon, but please note that this version does NOT include the Supplements.

How will I receive my eBook?

When you purchase the book and eBook pack you will receive a unique, single user activation code within your book and eBook pack. You will also receive directions to the Oxford University Press eBook website where you will enter your code, register with Oxford University Press, and download your eBook.

2) Go to www.oup.com/blackstones/criminal and click on the ‘Download the eBook’ button

3) Click on ‘Access the Blackstone's Criminal Practice 2012 eBook here’

4) When prompted, enter your 16 digit unique activation code. You can find this on the white postcard that is supplied inside your copy of Blackstone’s Criminal Practice. Please note: by entering this code, you are confirming acceptance of our Terms and Conditions.

5) Fill in our registration form and set up your OUP account details so that you can access your eBook whenever you want.

6) Click on the activation link in the confirmation email that has been sent to you to complete your registration process

7) Click on the link 'Access the eBook' and choose the file which is compatible with your device. Providing you have the correct eReader software installed your ePub for PC and iPad files should open automatically , eg:

When you click on the '.ePub optimized for PC and Mac via Adobe Digital Editions' link, the eBook should immediately open in Adobe Digital Editions.

When you click on the '.ePub file optimized for iPad file' file, you will be given an 'Open in' prompt. Please select the eReader you wish to use to view our eBook (eg 'iBooks' or 'Stanza')

8) Downloading your file onto your Kindle:

Click on the '.mobi file optimized for Kindle and other devices that do not accept ePub files' link.

Either:

  • Save the file to your computer and email to your Kindle email address yourname@kindle.com. This means that Amazon will send the file directly to your Kindle.
Or:

For PC
  • Connect your Kindle to your PC
  • A window will appear asking "Do you want to open or save this file?" Click 'Save'.
  • Go to 'Computer' and select 'Kindle' from the list of options (where you see your drives and devices).
  • Double-click on the 'Documents' folder.
  • You will now see the file 9780199694464 in the 'File name' box. Select 'Save'.
  • The file will now download. When the download is complete, close the window.
  • Unplug the Kindle from your computer. After a couple of seconds "Blackstone's Criminal Practice 2012" will appear in the list of titles on your Kindle (flagged as 'new'). The BCP eBook is now ready to read.
To delete the BCP eBook from your Kindle:
  • Plug the Kindle into your PC.
  • Go to 'Computer' and select 'Kindle' from the list of options (where you see your drives and devices).
  • Select each BCP file (9780199694464.mpb and 9780199694464.prc) and right-click to delete.
  • Disconnect the Kindle from the PC. "Blackstone's Criminal Practice 2012" should now be absent from the list of titles on your Kindle.
For Mac
  • Connect you Kindle to your Mac
  • Open the Kindle application that appears on your desktop
  • Drag and drop the BCP eBook file from the 'downloads folder' into the 'documents folder' in Kindle. A progress bar will appear.
  • When this is complete, eject the Kindle device from your computer.
  • Your Blackstone's Criminal Practice 2012 eBook will now appear in your Kindle library.
To delete the BCP eBook from your Kindle:
  • Plug the Kindle in to your Mac
  • Go to the Kindle application on your desktop.

What Functionality will I have with my eBook?

If you see any page numbers (or location numbers), these will have been added by the device you have chosen to use and do not match the print page numbers.The exception to this is when using the ePub file on a PC or Mac in Adobe Digital Editions(ADE). Page numbers are now included in the file and match the main work numbers. This number is shown on the example below, to the left of the eBook location numbers (the numbers given in brackets). However, when printing sections it is necessary to use the current eBook location number provided in ADE, which is the first of the numbers given in brackets, as shown below. Main

An Activation Code is a unique 16-digit number. It can only be used once, and using this code indicates your acceptance of our Terms and Conditions). Once you have entered the Activation Code you are able to register for access to Blackstone’s Criminal Practice 2012 eBook.

Where do I find my Activation Code?

The 16-digit Activation Code is printed on the white card that is supplied inside the book that is part of the Blackstone’s Criminal Practice 2012 print and eBook package.

When do I need my Activation Code?

The Activation Code is only used once, when you first register. After this, you are a ‘returning user’ and log in using the username and password you set when registering your account.

There are two options, either the Book on its own or the Book and print Supplements. Both are available from the Oxford University Press web catalogue. These two options do not include the eBook.

What do the Supplements contain?

The supplements are cumulative and contain the following:

How do I change my login details (e.g. username, password or email address)?

Go to the Login page, and click ‘change details’ button. You will be required to enter your existing details first.

What happens if I change my email address?

Your email address must be correct as this is how we will contact you to confirm your registration and to inform you when the eSupplements are available for download. To change your email address, go to the Login page, and click the ‘change details’ button. You will be required to enter your existing details first, including your original email address. If there’s a problem, contact Customer Support.

Why hasn’t my registration been accepted?

Your registration may not have been accepted if all required fields were not completed, or were not completed correctly. Please try the registration again, remembering that username and password are case-sensitive, and if it still isn’t accepted contact Customer Support.

My username and password do not work.

Please check that you have spelt everything correctly and that the caps lock is not on - your username and password are case-sensitive and your password should be 5-15 characters in length. Check that you have verified your account - immediately after registering, you will have been sent an email containing a secure link, and you must click on this link to complete the registration procedure and activate your account.
