This exercise helps you familarise yourself with looking up English idioms in the English-Spanish side of the dictionary to find the correct Spanish equivalent.
For instance, the translation for 'to know something off by heart' is listed at heart rather than know. Being aware of where idioms are most likely to be found will save you time when translating.
English and Spanish idioms are not always translatable word for word.
