Parenting contracts in cases of exclusion from school or truancy and in respect of criminal conduct and anti-social behaviour p 654

Add the following as a final para under this heading:

Police and Justice Act 2006 (P&JA 2006), s 23 inserted two new sections, 25A and 25B into the AsBA 2003 so as to enable a local authority or a registered social landlord (ie a body registered under the Housing Act 1996, Pt 1, Ch 1, such as a housing association) to enter into a parenting contract with a parent in respect of anti-social behaviour by his or her children. These powers are supplementary to those of schools and local education authorities to enter into parenting contracts in cases of exclusion from school or truancy, and of youth offending teams to enter into parenting contracts in respect of criminal conduct or anti-social behaviour. The Police and Justice Act 2006 (P&JA 2006), s 24 inserts new ss 26A and 26B to enable local authorities or registered social landlords to apply to a magistrates" court for a parenting order against a parent in respect of anti-social behaviour by his or her children. Such an application may also be made to a county court as an adjunct to other proceedings in that court. [Not yet in force]


General points about parenting orders p 655

A person is eligible to be the responsible officer in relation to a parenting order under s 26 only if he is a member of a youth offending team [P&JA 2006, Sch 14]. [Not yet in force]
