Preface
Preface to the third edition
This major new edition of the Oxford-Hachette French
Dictionary maintains the same innovative approach as the
highly acclaimed first edition. Thousands of new words, phrases,
and meanings have been added, reflecting the rapid changes in
language and culture of the last few years. Language evolves
constantly, and new developments in every area of contemporary
life require new means of expression. This dictionary records
these changes and offers the user a true picture of both French
and English at the beginning of the twenty-first century.
But a bilingual dictionary should also serve as a guide to
communication between two languages and cultures.
This dictionary does. We have revised and updated all the
supplementary material included in the dictionary to offer the
user the most useful and effective communication tool available.
We hope you will enjoy using this new edition.
