Police Law - Ninth Edition

Police Law tenth edition is now available! To find out more and to register for updates to the tenth edition, please visit the companion website.

Please note that this site will be removed on 1st May 2007.

Welcome to the companion website to Police Law 9/e, by Jack English and Richard Card. This site will keep you informed with all the legislative developments that affect the work throughout the lifetime of this edition.

Generally the information contained within this website refers to changes in law and procedure which have taken place, but in some instances where changes are likely to be made in the near future and are particularly significant, advance notice is given of impending change. In other circumstances, as in the case of the Gambling Act 2005 the provisions of which will have no operational consequences for police officers before 2007, a brief note is made of the fact that the Act exists, its aims and the likely date of implementation of matters of significance to police officers.

The 10th Edition of 'Police Law' is now being prepared for publication. In consequence, the final update of the 9th Edition within this website will contain a general description of the nature of any change, together with a reference to the source of the material.
