January 2012 update

The January 2012 update of the Oxford DNB adds biographies of 217 men and women who died in 2008. Click on the portraits to read a selection of new lives.


A full list of subjects is also available, along with the editor’s introduction to the new update. Online access to all 217 new biographies, together with the Oxford DNB’s 57,874 existing entries, is freely available—anywhere, anytime—via nearly all UK public libraries.


The story of Humphrey Lyttelton (1921-2008), jazz musician and radio broadcaster, is also available as an episode of the Oxford DNB’s free biography podcast.
