This year marks the 200th anniversary of the birth of the naturalist Charles Darwin (12 February) and the 150th anniversary of the publication of The Origin of Species (24 November). As well as the man himself, the Oxford DNB includes entries on Darwin’s grandfathers and six of his children.
Both of Darwin’s grandfathers were members of the Lunar Society,
one of more than 200 group entries in the Themes area.

Charles Darwin also appears in the Oxford DNB’s lists of Copley and Wollaston medallists (Themes), and is available as a ‘Very Interesting People’ paperback.
