Colin Matthew fund

As a way of passing on Colin's enthusiasm for history, his family and friends have established a trust fund to support historical research. Within this broad aim, the fund's immediate priority is to support those to whom Colin himself was so committed: younger scholars undertaking their first major research project, particularly a project which involves travel abroad.

St Hugh's College has kindly agreed to manage the trust fund. The committee which distributes the funds includes representatives of the family, the college, and the wider university.

Since its inception the fund has made an average of six awards a year to both undergraduate and graduate students of the university. But demand is greater than the fund is able to meet. To help the fund expand its activities, please make a donation, using this form.

(To read and print the donation form, you must have Adobe Acrobat Reader software installed: this is available free here.)

How to maximize the value of your donation

If you are a UK tax payer we can reclaim the basic rate income tax paid to the inland revenue on your donation. If you are a higher rate tax payer you can also reclaim the difference between the basic and higher rates (please see your tax adviser about claiming).

If you wish to make a single donation:
gift aid—all gifts made by UK tax payers may now qualify as gift aid. St Hugh's can reclaim 28p in the pound for any donation made under this scheme. Click here for a gift aid declaration form; please return this with your donation, marking your form 'Colin Matthew fund'.

If you wish to make a regular contribution to the fund:
banker's order—this is a simple method of making payments to college, at regular intervals, over a period of time. Please complete the banker's order section of the donation form. Under the new gift aid rules St Hugh's can reclaim basic rate income tax on regular gifts. Click here for a gift aid declaration form; please return this with your donation, marking your form 'Colin Matthew fund'.
