Read Write Inc. Comprehension
How does it work?
RWI Comprehension is the next step in developing children's composition and writing skills once they have become confident readers. It is ideal for children who are skilled decoders from Y2/P3 onwards and helps them reach National Curriculum level 3. It is suitable for use up to year 4.
- Children work through the 30 weekly modules, specially written to link reading and writing activities to carefully levelled texts.
- 14 of these modules have self-contained texts and the other 16 modules are based on beautifully illustrated books written by popular authors providing a range of author styles and text types.
- All the modules come with activities which provide practice in reading, writing and spelling, and consolidate the pupils' knowledge through comprehension and guided composition.
- Activities are designed to develop grammar, spelling, editing and writing skills too.
- The modules include both fiction and non-fiction texts
- Each module focuses on a 'big question' that provides a specific focus for the week.
What are the benefits to your children?
- The programme gives your children all the knowledge they need to read and write really well
- All children gain deeper understanding of what they read
- All children will become confident writers by exploring and creating interesting compositions

We like the repetition and rigour of RWI
Comprehension, and children always enjoy working
with the modules linked to children's books. The
pitch of the activities is very good as it
encourages all the children and helps to stretch
them.

The children's imagination takes off. They start to use sentences they would never have used before they did the Comprehension modules. Children love the Vocabulary Catch and the Fantastic Sentences.
