Before Reading
The activities provide children with support to revise and practise specific phonics knowledge and skills, and prepare to apply this to their reading.The activities are linked to the detailed session notes in the Teaching and Assessment Handbooks.

Text 1 - Yellow Band, Bugtastic, Cat's Quest
Exciting and 100% decodable, text 1 contains target phonemes and tricky words practised before reading. Instantly applying their knowledge to the text gives children a real sense of achievement.

Text 2 - Yellow Band, Bugtastic, Cat's Quest
At least 80% decodable, text 2 is longer and includes the same target phonemes and tricky words as text 1. It contains more varied vocabulary to create enthralling stories and develop comprehension skills at the right level of challenge.

After Reading
The activities strengthen speaking and listening skills and support children in building their vocabulary and comprehension. In addition, the phonemes taught in each zone are assessed as pseudo words in a meaningful context.
