FAQ
-
- Q, When I try to activate the 'Walkthrough,' nothing appears to be happening?
This is a common mistake that arises. The Walkthrough is accompanied with sound and does not do anything visually for a minute or so. This leads people to believe that the Walkthrough is simply not operating. To combat the problem, check the volume levels on your computer: both the levels on the speakers and those in the task bar in the bottom right corner of your machine. Once you have the volume up you should be able to hear a commentary.
-
- Q, The change between slides is very slow.
This is because the slide show must first be saved or 'Exported'. The slides must be put together in Vocab Visuals, then once complete (with any adjustments the user feels is necessary) the slide show must be saved. Once saved the slide show must be 'Run' (by going to 'Slide Show', 'Run' and then choosing the presentation you wish to view), the show is then displayed in Vocab Visuals, but with greater speed between slides and within a different viewing environment.
-
- Q, How can I record my own voice?
Vocab Visuals does have a feature that allows you to create your own sound clips, to accompany the pictures. By going to 'Slide Show' and 'Options,' you can choose which buttons are available when you run your presentation (to aid in navigation). By highlighting the 'Record' and 'Playback' buttons, you will now be able to make you own sound clips.
Once you are running your presentation you should see that the buttons you selected are present. In order to record your own sound clips, press the 'Record' button and speak into the microphone. To end the recording, press the 'Stop' button (which is what the 'Record' button changes to, once recording has begun).
You must press the 'Stop' button, DO NOT press the 'Play' button before you have stopped the recording.
Once you have completed your recording you can play it back by pressing the 'Play' button.
-
- Q, Is there a written version of the 'Walkthrough'?
Yes there is. It is located on the CD, in a file called 'help.doc'.
-
- Q, Why can I not re-size some of the images?
Vocab Visuals, does not allow all of the pictures available to the user to be edited in size or colour i.e. in the 'House' section of the program, there is an outline of a house, into which the rooms of the house can be placed. The rooms however cannot be changed in shape or size due to the fact that, if they are moved/resized, they will not be able to fit within the 'house layout.'
-
- Q, How do I edit the text descriptions of the images?
Simply use the mouse to double-click on the existing text and a box will open where you can change the text.
-
- Q, How do I get the program to recognize accents when typing in French?
You need to find the file 'accents.txt' on the CD. This shows you which type of accent corresponds with which command. You will need to use the Alt key and a series of numbers to make the accents appear (i.e. Alt 02**). These only work when you use the left Alt key and the number pad, on the right.
