FAQ
- Q, Does the OCE work on Windows XP?
The answer is both yes and no - it depends what your setup is, and what version of the OCE you have. The latest OCE version (1.3) runs on XP but any version below this will not.
If you have purchased an older version of the software and wish to upgrade, then unfortunately you will have to buy the newer version of the OCE.
Firstly, if you are attempting to use the software on a single computer, you will be able to use the software no matter what Operating System you are using.
Also, if you are trying to network the software and have a Windows operating system lower than Windows XP, you will be able to run the OCE.
For people who are running Windows XP with Service Pack 2, please take important note of the following:
The latest OCE version (1.3) was built for Windows XP, and up until a point, was able to work with XP with no problems whatsoever. But, after Microsoft brought in Service Pack 2 as a system upgrade, it brought in massive conflicts with the OCE.
As a result, the OCE now no longer runs on any network which runs Service Pack 2 (which is a standard and recommended upgrade) as a part of Windows XP.
Before purchasing the OCE, we recommend that you check your system is compatible. If this information is still unclear, please contact us for further help.

- Q, How do I network the Oxford Children's Encyclopedia?
It is possible to network the OCE; however, it can be a difficult process. We suggest that the contents of the CD are copied into a shared folder on the network. Then run the 'setup' file from there. If this doesn't work, another solution is to copy the CD into a shared folder, and create links from each of your users desktops, to the file 'OCEMFC_4.EXE' found in the shared folder. If neither of these suggestions help, you will need to contact us directly on 01865 353374 or send an e-mail to:

- Q, Once I have entered the CD, when I click on one of the topics, nothing happens. What do I do next?
The navigation system for the CD relies on you holding down the left mouse button. This will make the animation continue. When you wish to stop and view some of the navigation options, remove your finger from the mouse and the animation will stop.
