FAQ
- Q, How do I install the Software on a RM Community Connect 3 network (CC3)?
To install on a server running RM Community Connect 3 (CC3):
- Place the Software CD-ROM in the CD drive.
- Click on the Start button. Select 'Run ...'
- In the Run dialog box type 'D:\setup' (if D: is the name of your CD-ROM drive)
- Click OK. This starts the Software setup program.
- When prompted (after the tools have been installed), select 'CC3' from the Installation Mode options. This will create the necessary files in the package area of the CC3 server and a database area in a shared folder.
- You will need to change the permissions on the shared folder so that all relevant users have read/write permission.
- Use the CC3 Resource Manager to allocate the package and create shortcuts on the relevant client machines (you may need to update the package list first' to do this please choose the 'Update package list' option).
- Reboot the client machines to install the Software. This will access the database at the shared location.
For further information, please consult your network administrator and/or your RM Community Connect documentation.

- Q, How do I install the Software on a Windows Server 2003 network?
To install on a server running Windows Server 2003:
- Place the Software CD-ROM into the CD drive.
- The installation is created in two parts. The tools are installed first ' please choose a location for these.
- Once installed, the second part of the installation automatically begins. Select 'Other Networks' from the menu options and then create a folder in your shared area for the database to sit in. This file location is very important so please take a note of it.
- Click Install. Once installed please check the permissions of the shared folder where the database was installed and make sure it is set so all users have read/write permission.
- On the client machine go through the installation process again. The first part of the process installs the tools ' please install them to the program files of that machine.
- When the second part of the installation appears, please choose 'Network Client' from the menu options. In the Installation Path field insert the folder path back to the server where the database was installed (point 3 above) and then click Install.
- The Software has now been successfully installed to your network.
-
- Q, I'm unable to uninstall an upgrade from the rest of the Software.
The Software has a simple uninstall procedure that only allows you to uninstall the entire product. However, you do not have to uninstall the database ' you are given the choice to retain all the database contents, including any additional data created by users.
-
- Q, I've got an updated CD-ROM ' how do I install this to the original installation on a server?
To install an updated CD-ROM to your series, please run the installation on your server. When updating a CD-ROM you only need to update the database, not the application. The update reflects this as the installation will go straight to the database install and will already have the path for installation selected. When prompted on the updated CDROM please click on Install and the updated CD-ROM will be completely installed to the system ' no client update is required.
-
- Q, Does the Software work on an Apple Macintosh computer?
The Software has been created for use on Windows only. But if you have an Intel Mac and have installed Windows XP sp2 or higher then you will be able to run the Software using these settings.
-
- Q, Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0 installation appears instead of the Software.
If you are running a computer or network without Microsoft .NET Framework or Microsoft .NET Framework 1, then the first part of the installation will detect these setting and ask you to install Microsoft .NET Framework 2. Please follow the onscreen instructions for the installation. The Software uses the Microsoft .NET Framework 2 libraries so this installation is necessary for successful installation of the Software.
-
- Q, What if my Microsoft .NET Framework is only a beta version?.
If you have a beta version of Microsoft .NET Framework and try to run the CD-ROM you will be asked to follow the installation process to install the correct version. Please be aware that you need to fully remove the beta from your system before installing the updated version. You will need to go to Add or Remove Programs in the Control Panel to do this.
-
- Q, I can't access the content on the server from the the Software product.
If this occurs then check your permissions on the server in the file location that the database is held. It is important that the folder and all sub-folders are set to read/write full access permission.
-
- Q, When I open a resource the following error message appears 'Unable to complete action. No application is associated with the specified file for this operation.'
If this error message appears, please look at the file type inside the Software, this means that you do not have the correct plug-in or player available to display the resource. Here is a list of the common players and plug-ins required to view most the Software resources:
Windows Media Player v9 or above
Flash Player 8 or above
Adobe Acrobat 6 or above
Microsoft Office 97 or above
-
- Q, While installing I'm getting the error message 'An Exception Occurred: Please verify that all resources are valid'.
This error message appears when the hard disc space of the target location for the content/database is full. Please navigate to the 'The Software database' folder on the server, or the 'My documents' folder on a standalone machine, and increase the size of the drive to allow the installation to complete successfully.
-
- Q, Do I need to restart the server once I've installed the the Software content to it?
No. Once you have installed the Software to the server it DOES NOT need to be restarted.
-
- Q, I have distributed the CD-ROM across my school network but when opening the product I get the following error: To run this application, you first must install one of the following versions of the .Net Framework v2.0 50727.
Contact your application publisher for instructions about obtaining the appropriate version of the .Net Framework.'
If this occurs then you need to install Microsoft .NET Framework Version 2 from the Microsoft website to the client machine.
-
- Q, I've tried to run an .exe activity from within the Software and I've got the error message 'Error. Access is denied.'
If this occurs then the permissions set on the network have blocked the .exe from running. All .exe running inside the Software are Flash self-extracting animations or simple whiteboard activities. Please ensure that suitable permissions are set in the 'Software Database' folder or custom folder (if you have created one) on the server. This folder will either require full permissions or you will need to set permission for it from the third party software which sets security in your environment. Please allow suitable permissions to these folders and sub-folders to allow the application to work.
-
- Q, Is there an MSI on the CD-ROM so I can distribute via GPO or any other third party software.
There is an MSI file on the CD that you can use, named 'ouptools.msi'. When you run it, it will create the client application on the clients, minus the link to the database in the client's "FuseCore.config" file. Once it's run, you will need to create a FuseCore file with the correct server path in and use a batch command to upload this to all of the machines that have the Software installed on them.
-

This error normally appear when you are tring to install the application from a remote location i.e. a shared network drive, .Net applications cannot run from a network drive (.net has quite severe restrictions on where applications can be run from).
This is not so much a bug as a limitation of the technology.
To remedy this issue the user needs to install the tools locally with the database on the network that they are accessing.
