- Q, I want to use Stories for Writing on an RM CC3 network. Is that possible?
We have created a CC3 package for
Stories for Writing, which you can find on the CD-ROM in a marked folder. To install this RMCC3 package:
- On CC3 Main Server PC, insert the Stories for Writing disc and open the RMCC3 folder accessible from the root directory of the CD.
- Copy the folder from within the RMCC3 folder on the CD to D:\RMNetwork\FMManage\Packages\Applications\
- You should then be able to use the RM Management Console to roll-out the package to client machines in the usual way.
-
- Q, I want to install Stories for Writing to a network that isn't an RM CC3 network. Is that possible?
Stories for Writing is a program with a standalone installation only. We recommend that you use it on standalone machines. However, our testing indicates that Project X Interactive Stories software can be installed on a shared drive on a network and accessed from several client computers - this use is not officially supported, but you may find it works for you.

- Q, How do I install the Planning software on a Windows Server 2003 network?
To install on a server running Windows Server 2003:
- Place the Planning CD-ROM in the CD drive.
- The installation is created in two parts. The tools are installed first - please choose a location for these.
- Once installed, the second part of the installation automatically begins. Select 'Other Networks' from the menu options and then create a folder in your shared area for the database to sit in. This file location is very important so please take a note of it.
- Click Install. Once installed please check the permissions of the shared folder where the database was installed and make sure it is set so all users have read/write permission.
- On the client machine go through the installation process again. The first part of the process installs the tools - please install them to the program files of that machine.
- When the second part of the installation appears, please choose 'Network Client' from the menu options. In the Installation Path field insert the folder path back to the server where the database was installed (point 3 above) and then click Install.
- The Planning software has now been successfully installed to your network.
-
- Q, Does the Planning software work on an Apple Macintosh computer?
The Planning software has been created for use on Window only. But if you have an Intel Mac and have installed Windows XP sp2 or higher then you will be able to run the Planning software using these settings.
-
- Q, Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0 installation appears instead of the Planning software.
If you are running a computer or network without Microsoft .NET Framework or Microsoft .NET Framework 1, then the first part of the installation will detect these settings and ask you to install Microsoft .NET Framework 2. Please follow the onscreen instructions for the installation. The Planning software uses the Microsoft .NET Framework 2 libraries so this installation is necessary for successful installatino of the Planning software.
-
- Q, What if my Microsoft .NET Framework is only a beta version?
If you have a beta version of hte Microsoft .NET framwork and try to run the CD-ROM you will be asked to follow the installation process to install the correct version. Please be aware that you need to fully remove the beta from your system before installing hte updated version. You will need to go to Add or Remove Programs in the Control Panel to do this.
-
- Q, I can't access the content on the server from the Planning software product.
If this occurs then check your permissions on the server in the file location that the database is held. It is important that the folder and all sub-folders are set to read-write full access permission.
-
- Q, When I open a resource the following error message appears: "Unable to complete action. No application is associated with the specified file for this operation."
If this error message appears, please look at the file type inside the Planning software, this means that you do not have the correct plug-in or player available to display the resource. Here is a list of the common players and plug-ins required to view most resources: Windows Media Player v9 or above, Flash Player 8 or above, Adobe Acrobat 6 or above, and Microsoft Office 97 or above.
-
- Q, Do I need to restart the server once I've installed the content to it?
No. Once you have installed the Planning software to the server it DOES NOT need to be restarted.
-
- Q, I have distributed the CD-ROM across my school network but when opening the product I get the following error: 'To run this application, you first must install one of the following versions of the .Net Framework v2.0 50727. Contact your application publisher for instructions about obtaining the appropriate version of the .Net Framework.'
If this occurs then you need to install Microsoft .NET Framework version 2 from the Microsoft website to the client machine.
-
- Q, Is there an MSI on the CD-ROM so that I can distribute via GPO or any other third party software?
There is an MSI file on the CD that you can use, named 'ouptools.msi'. When you run it, it will create the client application on the clients, minus the link to the database in the client's "FuseCore.config" file. Once it's run, you will need to create a FuseCore file with the correct server path in and use a batch command to upload this to all of the machines that have the Planning software installed on them.
-
- Q, During Installation I am Getting the following ERROR: Request for the permission of type System.Security.Permissions.SecurityPermisson, mscorlib, Version=2.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=b77a5c56194e089 failed.
This error normally appear when you are tring to install the application from a remote location i.e. a shared network drive, .Net applications cannot run from a network drive (.net has quite severe restrictions on where applications can be run from). This is not so much a bug as a limitation of the technology. To remedy this issue the user needs to install the tools locally with the database on the network that they are accessing.
