Elizabeth Lutzeier
Elizabeth Lutzeier was born in Manchester in 1952. She obtained a BA degree and an MA in English from Leeds University, and then took her teacher training certificate at Oxford University. After her studies she went to work abroad, first in Berlin and then in California. Elizabeth now lives with her family in east London, and works as an advisory teacher.
Elizabeth Lutzeier won the Kathleen Fidler Award in 1984 for her first novel, No Shelter (published by Blackie). The award is given to a new writer for a first children's novel. Despite her success Ms Lutzeier doesn't think of herself as a ‘real’ writer like Shakespeare or Jane Austen, but enjoys writing, and indeed has always written diaries and letters, and translated English and German texts and articles.
