Dennis Hamley

Dennis Hamley was born in Kent in 1935. During the Second World War his family
moved to Winslow, Bucks. He was educated at the Royal Latin School and spent
two years in the RAF before continuing his education at Cambridge where he read
English. In 1980 he gained a PhD from Leicester University.
His first book was published in 1963, but his first novel was not written until
the 70s. Since then he has written numerous novels and short stories for all
ages. In 1991 The War and Freddy was shortlisted for the Smarties Prize.
The US paperback of his Hare's Choice was selected by the International
Reading Association as a 'Favourite paperback of 1994'.
Dennis is married with two children and a grandson.
