David Calcutt

David Calcutt was born in Wednesbury in the Midlands in 1950. He has worked as a playwright, director and storyteller, and has written for both the stage and BBC radio. Several of his plays for young people are published by Oxford University Press. He is also a poet.

David has written and made up stories for as long as he can remember. As a boy, he liked reading comics and watching cowboy films. The two books that really fired imagination were Treasure Island and Moby Dick, and they both remain favourites. Mythology and folk lore are another source of inspiration.

David Calcutt has also teamed up with Oxford University Press to provide schools with engaging and interactive dictionary workshops. For more information, please click here.

David has three children and he and his wife live in the Midlands.
