Jill Bennett

Jill Bennett was born in Karachi, Pakistan but was educated in England. Following her B. ED. Advanced Diploma in Education (The Role of Language), she has taught at all levels of education from nursery to teacher-training.

She started writing in about 1980, at the request of the editor of Thimble Press, about her approach to teaching literacy. Since then she has gone on to compile many books of poetry for children, and has written several books on children and their reading. Furthermore, she has compiled collections of stories and activities for children and in 1985 her picture book Teeny Tiny (illustrated by Tomie DePaola) was published. Jill now has over forty books in print, and in 1990 won the Eleanor Farjeon Award for services to Children's Books.

Jill teaches full time in a primary school in London, but in her spare time likes nothing better than travelling in and around India. She is married and lives in Hanworth, Middlesex.
