The aim of the web site of the Académie française is to monitor, encourage, and protect the French language. It makes an annual award, the Grand Prix de la Francophonie, to the person or institution which best promotes these aims. The Académie makes recommendations on new terminology and usage in French. Visitors to the website can view the current academicians (up to 40), or immortels, and find out how they are elected, and more about their functions and responsibilities.

The Institut de linguistique française (ILF) is a centre for research into contemporary and historical French language and usage. Its principle aims are to provide resources for the French language, and to provide support for research projects in French linguistics.
