Sales Manager

Reporting to the National Sales Manager of the Higher Education Division, the Sales Manager will be required to:

  • Help build and execute long-term sales plans in the Higher Education milieu across Canada;
  • Manage day-to-day operations of sales regions and report to the National Sales Manager;
  • Travel extensively with the sales team;
  • Provide leadership, direction, and positive guidance to divisional sales representatives;
  • Leverage divisional sales, marketing, and editorial resources to drive sales growth;
  • Increase top-line sales, accountability, and reporting against budgeted objectives;
  • Help plan and conduct sales meetings and sales training programs.

The individual selected will be a proven leader, with high levels of ambition and commitment. Additional requirements include a rigorous and disciplined sales management methodology, excellent relationship-building skills, and a “rep” background in educational publishing and/or related fields of intellectual property. Possessing an undergraduate degree, he/she will be:

  • A proven sales professional, ideally possessing a disciplined management background acquired as a representative in the Higher Education marketplace, with an emphasis on sales leadership and excellent relationship-building skills;
  • Able to lead and manage a regional sales team, with an exemplary work ethic, a positive attitude, a goal-oriented mindset, and the skill to make effective use of divisional resources;
  • Capable of inspiring positive action and effective outcomes through strong interpersonal skills;
  • Aware of long-term trends in the Higher Education publishing industry and able to capitalize on opportunities when they present themselves;and
  • Prepared to lead and ensure continuing growth in divisional revenues.

Sales Representative

The Higher Education Division of Oxford University Press seeks an energetic, achievement-oriented Sales Representative based in Montreal.

Candidates must be goal-oriented, articulate, hard-working, enthusiastic, computer-literate, and thrive in independent, fast-moving work environments. You must be able to prioritize effectively and possess exceptional organizational skills. You must hold at least an undergraduate university degree. Some overnight travel is required.

Developmental Editor

There is an immediate opening for a Developmental Editor in the ESL department at Oxford University Press.

The developmental editor is responsible for manuscripts between the time the contract is signed and the first drafts arrive for review until the manuscript is ready for hand over to production. The main responsibilities in this job are author management, development of projects according to the publication plan, and the scheduling and coordination of projects.

Specific responsibilities include:

  • Pre-submission liaison with the author to secure the timely arrival of the first draft manuscript.
  • Initial review of the manuscript to assess compliance with the publication plan and proposal review feedback.
  • Peer and market review of manuscripts.
  • Working with authors to ensure all necessary content and market revisions are successfully achieved, based on the peer and market review.
  • Preparing manuscripts for handover to production, including planning and coordinating any necessary photo research, creating art logs, and gathering permissions information for later clearance.
  • Creation of NBAs.
  • Setting and running launch meetings.

The developmental editor works as a team with the Associate Director and the Acquisitions Editor responsible for the projects. Three to five years of experience as a developmental editor and good computer and organizational skills are essential. ESL experience would be an asset.
